Monday 4/30 Box Tops are due. The class with the most can win a Popsicle party. Tuesday, May 1st Reading Checks are due for the month of April. Friday, May 4th all Library Books are due. Start looking for any lost library books. Take a peek at our week: Reading: How can I compare and contrast the most important points presented by two texts on the same topic? Spelling/Phonics: How does the prefix dis- change a word? (Spelling Words: disorder, disagree, disobey, distrust, dishonest, disgrace, disappear) Math: What are some strategies I can use to add/subtract within 1000? Parents thank you so much for all the donated snacks for our shape investigation on Friday. The students had so much fun!! They also enjoyed all the yummy snacks. This was such a great way to review our study of shapes. We couldn't have done it without your donations!!!!
We have such a busy week this week so please check your child's agenda as we have written all of this in our agendas. Monday we are having our Opening Ceremonies of our Field Days at the end of the day so we are on an Early Release schedule. We are supposed to have our ceremonies outside but they will probably be moved inside due to the weather. Also, please have your child bring a towel to sit on during this time. Tuesday is our field trip to visit Big Shanty Intermediate. We will have the opportunity to talk with the staff and 3rd grade students. Lunch will NOT be effected with this trip as it will be a shorter field trip. Wednesday is our field day. Please be sure to send your child in comfortable clothes, sneakers, a water bottle, and make sure sunscreen is applied before school. We will have a regular lunch. Thursday is our field trip to the Fire Safety Village so if you are planning to buy a lunch from school it will be a sack lunch. If not please send your child's lunch in a disposable bag. Science: What is the life cycle of a plant? This week we have a visit from a Fire Fighter from Cobb County. They will give us a lesson on fire safety before our visit to the Fire Safety Village on April 26th. We also have our annual Art Show this Thursday, April 19th from 4-6 p.m.
Our class has been working hard to show great behavior and we have earned a Making Slime Party. We hope to make slime tomorrow or Tuesday. Way to Go! We had a lot of students meet their reading checks goal for March. Continue nightly reading (Raz-Kids included). We need 20 Reading Checks for April. I will be sending out a Sign-Up Genius this week we need help with a few snack items for a fun 3-D shapes activity. Take a peek at our week: Reading: What is the Author's Point? We only have 6 and 1/2 weeks left of school which is 33 school days. We will be very busy getting ready for third grade. We will be really trying hard to raise our reading levels and master math concepts and math facts. I want everyone to feel prepared and ready for third grade. We have an author's visit on Wednesday, April 11th, with Carmen Deedy. She has written many children's books such as The Library Dragon. This will be such a neat experience for our students.
We have written some specials for the month of April in our agendas but not all of them on Monday we will have Technology Lab. I will be checking our March reading log to see who reached their goal of 20 reading checks! Please have this filled out by Monday, April 10th. If your child has read a lot over spring break be sure to add that to the reading log as well. We have already set our April goal of 20 reading checks as well.
