Parents I hope you are enjoying the break so far. I wanted to give you a few activities if you have time over the break.
*I sent home a My Money workbook Friday. This is from the Federal Reserve. It reviews our study of coins, goods, services, and bartering. It also teaches the characteristics of money on page 3. There are some great activities. When we return to school we will start working on word problems with money so please review and practice counting sets of coins and bills. Students need to practice using the ¢ and $ for sets of money for example $1.42 and 142¢. *Six Flags Reading: This log sheet is blue and was sent home a few weeks ago. Students can read 6 hours and receive a free ticket to six flags. This reading log is due the Monday we return and yes you can use any reading from your reading log (agenda) that you have already logged for February. It can count toward your reading checks and your Six Flags reading. This reading CAN included RAZ-Kids also. * Conceptua Math: Students have some new assignments and they have some that they can review again. *Xtra Math: Yes please review those math facts. It’s only 5 minutes a day! *Raz-Kids: Record your reading with a microphone also!! *Card-Zee: To review place value and comparing numbers *Closest to 100: To practice adding two-digit numbers *Symballoo Games: These are under learning resources on my blog.

We are in our last week before winter break next week! We have picture day this week and our Valentines exchange on Wednesday 2/14. Please remember students are to create a solid shape box with measurements and attributes. This is all on our pink packet that was sent home.

We are almost half-way through our third nine weeks please expect progress reports at the end of this week.
This Wednesday is our Performing Arts Field Trip to Beauty and the Beast. Next Thursday, February 15th is Arts Integration Night. Come see how we integrate the Arts into our lessons to make them more meaningful and engaging. We have had so many students meet their reading checks goal for the month of January! Way to go! This Wednesday is our field trip to the Center for Puppetry Arts. Please pack a lunch for your child in a disposable bag if you are not buying a sack lunch from our cafeteria. This will ensure lunch boxes and water bottles do not get lost. Reading logs are due this Thursday, February 1st for the month of January. Take a Peek at our Week: Reading: How can I compare and contrast stories? What is a fable? What is the central message, lesson, or moral? Spelling: What are different compound words? (Spelling Words: softball, someone, nighttime, cherry pie, fire drill, high school, good- bye, part-time, ice-skater) Math: How can I use an open number line to add and subtract three-digit number? Writing: How can I share my opinion? How can I explain my reasons? Social Studies: What contributions did Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Jackie Robinson make? I hope everyone stayed safe during our THREE snow days! We never expected that! We are getting back to learning. I hope everyone caught up on reading with Raz-Kids and math facts with Xtra Math and our new game Card-Zee. This week I will be showing students a new resource called Conceptua Math. This will be a great way to learn, practice, and review math concepts. Look for it coming soon.
Box tops are due this Friday 1/26 we are trying to win a pizza party. Take a Peek at our Week: Reading: What are fairy tales? How can I recount them? What is the central message? Spelling/Phonics: What are some consonant + le, al, and el syllable patterns? (Spelling Words: saddle, bottle, table, puddle, noble, nickel, label, global.) Math: How can I add and subtract three-digit numbers? Writing: How can I share my opinion? Social Studies: What are some contributions Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Jackie Robinson made to our country? Friday I taught the students how to play a place value game called Card-Zee. I placed a yellow parent letter of how to play this game in your child's binder in a sheet protector with a game card on the back. All you need is a deck of cards and a dry erase marker so you can play multiple times. This game reinforces what we have learned about place value. It is a great way to review and help your child. Please try to play this with your child, it is a lot of fun!
Remember to practice weekly spelling words in your child's agenda using your blue spelling contract activities. We have a school-wide Box Top contest going on. The class with the most Box Tops will win a pizza party. All Box tops are due January 26th. We will write this in our agendas. I hope everyone stayed safe and warm today. We have a lot of new standards that we will be working on this nine weeks. On Friday, you saw your child's Red Thursday folder go home. It had your child's report card and some assessments and writing. Please sign the white envelope and keep the report card. Do not seal the envelope as I will send their report card from third nine with this envelope. Also, there is a FREE field trip on 1/31 to the center for puppetry arts. Please sign this form and return as soon as possible.

We will resume spelling/phonics and math homework next week January 9th. Friday, January 5th I will send home some report cards, flyers for our Donuts with Dads event, as well as our free Arts Integration Field trip to the Center for Puppetry Arts on January 31st. Please be on the look out for lots coming home Friday. We are on the last three days of this nine weeks! I can't believe we are half way through second grade. I want to thank everyone for their support. Our holiday party was so fun and the kids loved showing kindness with our stocking stuffers. As we end this nine weeks we will be doing some assessments and review. You will see some assessments coming home this week and also some after our holiday break. Report cards will come home in January. The students have made a lot of growth and it is important that you keep them reading and practicing math facts over the break. They can always get on Raz-Kids as well! We will count our reading checks when we return in January.
Just a reminder we have a full school day Monday 12/18 but on Tuesday 12/19, and Wednesday 12/20 we will have early release at 12:30. Our holiday break starts Thursday 12/21. I hope everyone has a wonderful time with their family and friends. Happy Holidays!!!! |
