Parents mark your calendars, tomorrow 12/5 we are taking the RI (Scholastic Reading Inventory) this is the test they take on the computer as another measure of their reading level. They take this test independently so please talk with your child about doing their very best and taking their time to show what they know and to show how far they have come in their reading. On Wednesday, December 12 we will take the MI (Math Inventory).
On Friday, December 15th we will have our class holiday party from 12:00-1:00. We will have some fun activities during this time. I will have a sign up Genius coming out to help with supplies for this fun time. Please consider picking up an item or two. This Thursday we will have a preview of our holiday shop. Students will be able to preview what gifts are there and make a list of items and prices for gifts. Their shopping day is next Monday, December 11. Last, as we get ready to end this nine weeks please practice adding and subtracting two-digit numbers with your child. Also skip counting from any given number within 1,000 by 2's, 5's, 10's, and 100's. Math facts within 20 must be mastered by the end of this nine weeks also. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break! I hope you all had time together to have fun and relax! We have three weeks and three days left of our second nine weeks of school. We are learning a lot of new things this week. We will jump into poetry and writing like a scientist with forces and motion. We will continue our learning on measurement and vowel dipthongs.
We have a movie night coming up on Friday, December 8th for $5 which includes pizza and a drink. This is from 6-8 p.m. and Arthur's Christmas will be shown. Please note we have no school Tuesday, November 7th. Our Thanksgiving Feast will be on Thursday, November 16th from 11:45-12:25. If you are planning to attend please fill out the bottom of the feast form that was sent home Thursday and return it to school by Wednesday, November 8th. This is the last week of October and Tuesday 10/31 we will have some fun fall centers for students! I appreciate all the donated items and the time. Students can dress as a story book character on Tuesday we are asking for $1 donation for United Way. Students can even bring the book to share.
Also, on Wednesday 11/1 it is picture retake day! Just remember to bring back your package if you didn't like your pictures. Or if you were absent you will have your picture taken. Thursday, 11/2 is Jump Rope for Heart. If you are able to donate a 6 pack of juice that would be great. It will help give each child a a healthy snack during the event. We have our Jump Rope time from 12:45-1:30. Please have your children wear comfy clothes and shoes that day and pack a water bottle. Take a peak at our Week: Reading: What is the author's point? This is the last week of our first semester. Please encourage your child to complete 4 spelling contract activities every week with their weekly spelling words written in their agenda. I am now including them in our weekly updates under spelling. We are working on long e digraphs this week and spelling words will be getting more difficult. Students have a variety of activities to choose from in order to practice these words. Coming up in two weeks are conferences. We have our school's Fall Festival coming up October 20th and I know you have received an email from Mallory's mother, Kathy Wilson on how to donate to our basket. We are making a Baking Basket. Baking items and tools are inexpensive and wow there are so many possibilities! Please consider donating an item such as a baking mix or kitchen utensil to make this a success. Our basket will be auctioned off at our fall festival to raise money for our school. Conference Week is the week of October 16-20. Sometime this week you will recieve an email from me with a link to follow. This is a conference request form. This DOES NOT guarantee your time or day picked it simply helps me try to best schedule conferences. Please know we get out early that week for conferences. Our county is collecting items for Hurricane Harvey Relief. We have a list of items needed by clicking here. Items brought to school will be donated to those in Houston. We are collecting through Wednesday 9/13. Our Creek Indian Visitor in school field trip is coming up next week on September 20th.
